After nearly a decade of changing lives one home at a time, the Lions Club’s Free Trade Day is expanding interstate — with Kingaroy, Queensland set to host the next major event on Friday 8 May 2026.

Free Trade Day was launched on the New South Wales Central Coast in 2017 by local electrician and Lions Club member Ryan Wilson, following a job that left a lasting mark.

While attending a call-out, Ryan discovered a 96-year-old, visually impaired man who had been living without hot water for six months. Unable to afford repairs, the man had been showering in cold water through winter — silently enduring conditions no one should accept.

“Fixing the hot water system was simple,” Mr Wilson said.
“Realising how long he’d been suffering in silence was not. That job changed everything.”

That moment became the catalyst for Free Trade Day — an annual event where qualified tradespeople volunteer their time and skills to complete essential repairs free of charge for people genuinely doing it tough.
